Los Angeles SFB in El Segundo is the Space Force's acquisition hub, and it's essentially a defense contractor office building next to LAX where people wear uniforms that still confuse TSA agents, Uber drivers, and occasionally other military members who've never seen Space Force rank insignia. Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach are your neighborhood, which means your military experience includes beach volleyball at sunset, $18 smoothies, and running on the Strand past surfers who make more money in influencer deals than your O-4 paycheck. The cost of living will destroy you — LA-level rents on military pay is the real space mission, and your BAH is doing its best impression of 'not enough.' The lifestyle will rebuild you: year-round sunshine, world-class food from every cuisine on Earth, and a cultural scene that makes every future duty station feel provincial. The acquisition mission involves satellite programs worth billions, which you manage from a building that looks like an insurance company's regional headquarters. No one in LA knows what the Space Force is, and when you explain it they assume you're in a movie production. Some days, you're not entirely sure they're wrong.
