Recruiter vs. Reality
What they tell you

Marine Corps OCS is the gateway to earning a commission as a Marine officer. You'll be assessed on leadership, physical fitness, decision-making under stress, and the fundamental character that defines Marine officers. OCS is not training — it is screening. The question it answers is whether you have what the Marine Corps requires in its officers.

What it's actually like

OCS has attrition. That is deliberate and the Marine Corps would tell you that is the point. The physical demands are real, the sleep deprivation is systematic, and the leadership assessments are designed to put you in situations where doing the right thing is hard. Candidates who come in fit and with a clear understanding of why they want to be a Marine officer have better outcomes than those who come in soft in either area. The ten weeks are formative regardless of the outcome. If you earn a commission at the end, you will lead Marines. That responsibility should feel heavy from the first day.
